Responsible Care Verification

To help Chemistry Industry Association of Canada companies assure themselves and the public that the ethic and practices of Responsible Care® are indeed in place and driving continuous improvement, the Responsible Care verification process was developed with the involvement and continuing oversight of outside stakeholders.  This process has three purposes:
  • To help the companies improve
  • To help the industry improve
  • To improve credibility
Every three years companies are verified by teams of industry experts, public advocates and local citizens, who write a consensus report summarizing the verification process and players, opportunities for improvement, findings requiring corrective action and successful practices. Once the team has successfully completed their work (with repeat visits as necessary) the company is presented with a verification certificate.
 
New companies are verified three years after joining the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada using a comprehensive Responsible Care-in-Place Verification protocol, with subsequent triennial verifications following a more focused protocol. Verification reports are made available to their local communities and other interested parties by the verified company and by the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada through this website.

This report documents the observations and conclusions of the independent verification team tasked with conducting a Responsible Care Verification of the Evonik Degussa Canada Inc., Gibbons facility. The verification was undertaken on January 24 & 25, 2012 and included team visits to the Gibbons, Alberta location. This was the third Responsible Care verification completed for the Evonik Degussa Canada Inc., Gibbons facility. The last verification was completed on March 18 & 19, 2008.

This report documents the observations and conclusions of the independent verification team tasked with conducting a Responsible Care Verification of Canexus Corporation (Canexus). The verification was undertaken on February 7th, 8th and 9th 2012 and included team visits to the Brandon Manitoba sodium chlorate facility. The verification team also conducted interviews with other company personnel and external stakeholders at locations the team was unable to visit. This was the sixth Responsible Care verification completed for Canexus. The previous verification was completed on September 10th 2009.

The Responsible Care Verification of Methanex Corporation was carried out between August 29th and December 15th, 2011, beginning with a planning meeting team visit to their Corporate Headquarters in Vancouver, British Columbia, on August 28th and 29th. Verification visits subsequently took place as follows:

  • Corporate Headquarters on September 26th and 27th
  • Medicine Hat, Alberta plant site on September 28th and 29th
  • New Plymouth, New Zealand plant site from October 10th to 12th
  • Punta Arenas, Chile plant site on November 2nd and 3rd
  • Santiago, Chile Regional and Marketing & Logistics office on November 4th
  • Point Lisas, Trinidad plant site from December 12th to 14th

Ce rapport renferme les observations et conclusions de l’équipe de vérification responsable pour la vérification de la Gestion responsable pour KRONOS Canada Inc. La vérification a eu lieu le 8 et 9 juin 2011 ainsi que le 25 et 26 janvier 2012 seulement au site de Varennes qui inclut les bureaux administratifs et le seul site de production de la compagnie. L’équipe de vérification a aussi fait des entrevues avec le personnel de la compagnie, des représentants du comité paritaire de santé et sécurité. L'équipe a aussi fait des entrevues téléphoniques avec des gestionnaires américains de la compagnie en ce qui concerne les activités de ventes et services techniques aux clients ainsi que les activités des services de logistiques car ces activités sont sous la responsabilité de KRONOS Worldwide inc. localisée à Cranbury, New Jersey ou Houston, Texas. L'équipe a aussi rencontré le comité consultatif des citoyens (CCC) le 25 janvier après une de leur réunion régulière avec les représentants de l'usine de Varennes. Ceci représente la cinquième vérification de la Gestion responsable complétée pour KRONOS Canada Inc. La dernière vérification a été réalisée en octobre 2008.

This report documents the observations and conclusions of the independent verification team tasked with conducting a Responsible Care Verification of Evonik RohMax Canada Inc. (RohMax). The verification was undertaken on May 17th and 18th, 2011 and included a team visit to the company manufacturing site Morrisburg, Ontario. This was the fifth Responsible Care verification completed for RohMax. The last verification was completed in May of 2008.
