In 2011, the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada released its 18th consecutive Reducing Emissions report, summarizing the overall environmental performance of its member-companies’ manufacturing operations.
Clean air and clean water are important priorities for Canada’s chemistry industry. Since 1992, the first year of emissions reporting under Responsible Care®, CIAC members have:
- Reduced releases of known and probable carcinogens by 97 per cent
- Eliminated 98 per cent of emissions of 14 high-priority substances targeted by Canada’s Chemicals Management Plan
- Reduced the global warming potential of their operations by 66 per cent
- Decreased the ozone-depleting potential of their operations by 92 per cent
Today, a unit of chemical product is manufactured with 89 per cent less emissions than in 1992.
Our ongoing reporting of emissions is a vital part of our public commitment to Responsible Care®. CIAC’s member-companies welcome the opportunity to engage in discussion with Canadians regarding the emissions of substances and the reduction projections presented in the Reducing Emissions report.
